Morgan's Pier Announces Opening Date; Spruce Street Harbor Park Popping Up on the Delaware
Though spring’s rollout seems to have taken a turn towards chilly, things are beginning to heat up along the Delaware River.
This week Avram Hornik and the team at Four Corners Management announced that their seasonal hotspot Morgan's Pier is set for launch on Thursday, May 1.
For its third season, the backyard-barbecue-meets-urban-beer-garden will have David Gilberg at the helm of the kitchen. Gilberg gained considerable prestige and accolades as the chef-owner of dearly departed BYOB Koo Zee Doo, including a James Beard Award nomination and three-bell review from Philadelphia Inquirer’s Craig LaBan.
Right now details are few and far between, but based on Morgan’s Pier’s track record over the past few summers, it’s a safe bet that the food and drink options will continue to dazzle and delight. Stay tuned for more.
In the meantime, Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) sends word today that it is behind a new pop-up park, Spruce Street Harbor Park at the Penn’s Landing Marina, coming to the riverfront this summer.
DRWC is working with David Fierabend whose critically acclaimed Groundswell Design Group has developed the look and feel of the aforementioned Morgan’s Pier, as well as the outside area at Talula’s Garden and PHS Pop-Up Beer Gardens on South Broad Street, to create the block-and-a-half expanse that will contain a bar and restaurant, lily pad water gardens and nets that will suspend visitors over the water all built on a series of floating barges.
The ambitious Harbor Park will also offer a hammock lounge, mist walk, and boardwalk complete with food and drink concessions housed in repurposed shipping containers. There’s no word yet on who will operate the restaurant, bar and concessions. The opening is set for June 27, and the park will remain open through August 31.
