Philly Beer Week 2010
Philadelphia is a town filled with beer lovers and social drinkers. The town has a deep tradition and history in brewing beer as well as drinking it. It is only fitting that there is a 10 day long festival named “Philly Beer Week” dedicated to the great beer culture surrounding the city and its suburbs. The festival includes numerous breweries and brew masters from around Philadelphia and the world, participating in over 500 individual events.
The first event of the PBW is the “Opening Tap,” which begins on Friday June 4th at 7:30pm. This is the official kick off of the week and is located at the Independence Visitor’s Center. To attend this event a ticket is needed, and can be bought through the Philly Beer Week website (www.phillybeerweek.org). If you are unable to attend this night of beer talk and drinking do not be alarmed as the 10 days are filled with events occurring all over the area. Most are pay as you go, but some require tickets to be purchased off the website.
The events for the week include many chances of meeting brewers, discussing beers, learning to brew beer, and of course getting drunk off the best beer the world has to offer. One headlining event is “Beer Gods” in which the head brewers from some of the most prominent breweries in the area have a discussion about brewing beer in the Philadelphia area while those in attendance get to enjoy the fruits of these brewers’ labors. A list of the events can be found on the website, and you may be able to find one occurring at a local bar near you.
The venues for this event include corner bars, restaurants, breweries, and distributors alike. The venues are the perfect places to discuss, learn, and enjoy the fine beer that comes from this great town as well as the visiting breweries from all over the United States and the world. They are scattered throughout Philadelphia and surrounding suburbs in PA, NJ, and DE.
The 10 days that make up Philly Beer Week are going to be ones enjoyed by all. This is an opportunity for avid beer fans and drinkers to meet the people behind the beer. It is a time where beer drinkers can drink in style and celebrate the delicious sustenance of life we all love.
Cheers.
