Bars in Philadelphia Celebrating Boxing Day on Dec. 26
Thanks to the anglophile inclinations embraced at several Philadelphia area pubs and taverns, Boxing Day, the traditional British practice of extending yuletide festivities to the day after Christmas, December 26, has taken root here in recent years. Below is a rundown on where to get in on Boxing Day fun.
Memphis Taproom (2331 E Cumberland St.; 215-425-4460)
The venerable Kensington bar and restaurant will celebrate its sixth annual Boxing Day Beer Festival all day on Thursday, December 26, beginning at 11:30 AM. Enjoy the best Christmas and holiday beers from all over the world, including Stone Espresso IRS 2013, Loverbeer Madamin 2011, Allagash Confluence 2012, Sierra Nevada Quad with Plums 2013, Dogfish Head Palo Santo 2012, Dupont Avec Les Bon Vouex, Del Borgo Maledetta Zymatore 2012, and many more on tap. And in keeping with the giving spirit, Memphia Taproom will be collecting new children’s books for area school kids. Each new book donated gets you $1 off of one of the amazing brews on tap.
Victoria Freehouse (10 S Front St.; 215-543-6089)
Of course this Old City Brit pub is rolling out the Boxing Day fun. From 11 AM to 10 PM enjoy “Bubble and Squeak,” a full English Breakfast, freshly baked pastries, and Boxing Day beer specials.
Pub & Kitchen (1946 Lombard St.; 215-545-0350)
In keeping with tradition, Rittenhouse’s Pub & Kitchen will open its doors early at 2 PM on Boxing Day.
