Partial Roof Collapse Puts For Pete's Sake Pub Out of Commission; Community Pitches in to Help Displaced Staff
Though no injuries were reported, the partial roof collapse was just the tip of the ice-bucket-challenge of bummers that dumped down on For Pete’s Sake Pub on Tuesday afternoon.
The collapse came as contractors were working on the second and third floors above the pub. Whether or not that caused the roof to come down hasn’t been determined. But rest assured, the city’s Licenses and Inspections is on the case.
Nonetheless, the cave-in puts the always abiding Queen Village corner spot out of commission. For how long? There’s no word yet. And that means the good folks who work there are also sidelined. Without pay. Until further notice.
But one thing about tragedies is, they have a way of bringing communities together in their wake to support those most affected by them. And sure enough, Queen Village and surrounding neighborhoods are pitching in to raise money to offset any hardships experienced by the staff during the pub’s hiatus.
On Saturday, August 22, at 6 PM, Olde Swede’s Church will host a fundraiser benefitting For Pete’s Sake Pub’s staff. There will be food, drink and live music from acts Sweetbrier Rose, North Lawrence Midnight Singers and Paul Fejko. Any generous cash donation gets you in. But dig deep. These folks could use the help.
