Square 1682 is celebrating its fifth anniversary this Sunday, October 12, with a culinary block party along Sansom Street. But this isn’t just a party. It’s also a heated competition.

The Great Philly Cheesesteak Challenge is a delicious way for some of Philly’s best culinary minds to showcase their rendition of a city classic, the cheesesteak. Chefs from Rex 1516, Barren Hill Tavern, Bainbridge Street Barrel House, Devil’s Den, Circles Contemporary Thai, and more will throwdown and whip up some great steaks wit and witout.

And of course you’ll need something to help wash down all those cheesesteaks. Lucky for you, a cocktail competition has been added to the celebration this year. Bartenders from a.kitchen + bar, Crow and the Pitcher, Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co., 1 Tippling Place, Oyster House and Red Owl Tavern will compete for both the judges’ love and yours. Sample them all, and vote for the people’s choice award. There will also be beer by Victory Brewing Co. and samples from local distiller, Manatawny Still Works.

Our own Founder of Drink Philly, Adam Schmidt, will be a judge at the event so be sure to say hi and have a drink with him. The party gets started at 1 PM on Sunday outside of Square 1682. Tickets are on sale now and are $40 each, with proceeds to benefit Philabundance.
