Philadelphia Distilling, the home of both Bluecoat American Dry Gin and one of the city's best cocktail programs, is beginning a new series of cocktail classes, which will be held on the last Friday of every month.

The first class, which will be on Friday, October 26 from 6 PM - 8 PM in the tasting room, will focus on cocktail fundamentals and be led by bar manager Canyon Shayer. Guests will learn the basics of making craft cocktails, including learning more about ice as both an ingredient and tool, how to use and choose your bar tools, when to shake and when to stir, and how to measure and pour correctly. 

Three cocktails will be highlighted during this session, which will include two classics — the Gimlet and Clover Club (the latter of which was originally created in Philadelphia) — as well as the Ninth Street, an original cocktail concocted by Shayer which is exclusively available at the distillery. You'll also be welcomed with a Bluecoat punch and be able to snack on appetizers while you shake, stir, and pour your cocktails so that you'll be able to make them at home.

Upcoming classes will include topics like holiday cocktails and pre-batched cocktails, but Shayer and the team at Philadelphia Distilling are starting with the fundamentals, so you won't want to miss this first class.
