Wine Now Sold in Local Produce Market
With all the hullaballoo over major grocery stores getting wine kiosks, and major chains outright building their own liquor stores, there's one shop that may have gone unnoticed by many.
A humble little produce market, Feder's Fresh, has recently begun selling wine. Over 150 wines are now offered at the time of this writing, and tastings are held on a regular basis, featuring great cheese from Di Bruno Bros.
Feder's Fresh is able to legally sell only Kosher wines, using a special liquor license they procured through the PLCB. Now that they have obtained their license, the owner informed us that he is free to purchase and stock any of over 1000 Kosher wines available in PA. The major catch is that the PLCB requires him to retain a completely separate set of books detailing all liquor sales. In other words, though he's selling the wine in the same place, records must be kept totally separate for all wine purchases. They are even required to have a separate cash register in a separate room to ring up the wine.
Wine prices vary greatly, but they average $10-20 per bottle. Wines as high as $50-60 per bottle are available as well.
Feder's Fresh is located at 1822 Spring Garden St.
