Summer of Riesling Comes to Philadelphia
The Summer of Riesling has begun as of June 21st, and several bars around Philadelphia are hopping on board.
What is the “Summer of Riesling,” you ask?
In 2008, Terroir Wine Bar in the East Village of NYC decided that for all 94 days of Summer, they would pour only Riesling by the glass as their white wine offering. Serving 30 different glass pours and 100 bottle offerings, this proved to be an educational adventure for both staff and customers alike.
The true beauty of the event is that Riesling, much like any other style of food or drink, does not always taste the same as the next one. The possibilities are wide open.
In order to participate in the Summer of Riesling, the bar must offer at least 3 Rieslings on their menu. Tria, McCrossen’s Tavern, and Jet Wine Bar are all jumping on the Summer of Riesling boat, each with their own special offerings.
- Tria will be offering three different Rieslings by the glass each day, and will “gently urge you to try them.”
- McCrossen's Tavern will be replacing 3 of their 5 white wine offerings with Riesling for the duration of the summer.
- Jet Wine Bar will be offering "Tasting Tuesdays," where you can make your own flight of 3 - 2.5oz for ten bucks, or buy half-glasses of wine at half price.
Make sure to visit these great wine bars and learn all about the joys of this wonderful grape!
