Perch Pub Pouring Rare Beers From The Bruery, August 23
Philly is a hotbed for Belgian styles, so it’s fitting that we’ll get a chance to taste two rare Belgian-esque crafts from Orange County, CA’s The Bruery. Turns out Bruery CFO Carl Katz is a PA native, and he’s coming home on for one night and bringing the unique beers with him for a tasting event at Perch Pub.
Starting at 6 PM on Thursday, August 23, Katz will be at the Broad Street beer bar with both Oude Tart and Tart of Darkness. Oude Tart is a Flanders red ale that has been aged in red wine barrels for 18 months. The 7.5% ABV brew usually only available at the West Coast brewery’s own tasting room, but it has won gold twice in its category at the World Beer Cup.
Tart of Darkness is from the Provisions Series small batch collection. Brewers created a 5.6% ABV stout, and decide to toss it into oak barrels with a special blend of souring bacterias and yeats. The result, according to Perch’s resident beer expert Steve Schmidt, is “a perfectly tart yet awesomely dark and roasty sour stout.”
Each beer will pour for just $5 from 6–7 PM (happy hour), and will be $10 for the rest of the night, or as long as these specialties last.
