Philadelphia Whiskey and Fine Spirits Festival: Sometimes the Bar Eats You
The path of excess will lead you to the palace of wisdom, but before you get there, you’ll be laid up for a few days in bed with a splitting headache. Yes, we know imbibing should be done responsibly, but (soley for the sake of journalism) we went about it somewhat Hunter S. Thompson-ly last night at the Philadelphia Whiskey and Fine Spirits Festival.
It was hard not to, considering some of the great pours available, including Pappy Van Winkle 20 Year and a new release from Ardbeg called Galileo (they even brought a rocket). But before we set out on our mission to drink all of the scotch there, we couldn’t pass up some of the more ridiculous offerings.
Mostly vodka based and some lighter in alcohol content, we knocked back such things as a salty caramel flavored vodka and Adult Chocolate Milk. The latter was endorsed by Ginuwine a few years back, so you know it’s awesome. Overall, it was really more about the marketing than the drink, but the reps were very knowledgeable about their products, even if they were dressed in space suits.
If you didn’t make it out to South Philly last night, the event is definitely worth attending next year — check out a bunch of photos, below. But do learn from our experience, and make sure you follow a rigorous water-drink-water regimen, to stay ahead of the hangover. (Ouch.)
