When Fritz Maytag bought it in 1965, Anchor Brewing arguably became the first craft brewery in the US, although the signature Anchor Steam Beer dates back much farther. You’ll have a chance to sample this uniquely hazy lager on Thursday, August 1, when Cavanaugh’s Headhouse hosts the San Francisco brewery for a Brew and Chew.
Other Anchor offerings pouring that night will be California Lager, Anchor Summer Beer and Anchor Porter. With an RSVP in advance (here), you can sip all you want of these brews from 8–10 PM for just $20, plus get four different appetizers designed to pair with the beer. It’s a great opportunity to taste a bit of craft beer history from the other coast.
