Daily News columnist, author and Executive Director of Philly Beer Week Don Russell (nom de brew Joe Sixpack) literally wrote the book on yuletide beers with his fascinating 2008 tome Christmas Beer: The Cheeriest, Tastiest, and Most Unusual Holiday Brews. But his latest sippable obsession concerns beers brewed in Lithuania.
And to help spread the good word about these brews from the southeastern shore of the Baltic Sea, he’s bringing a bunch of the best ones to the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Friday, November 8, for a tasting that coincides with Philadelphia Museum of Art’s 37th Annual Contemporary Craft Show. The show itself runs from November 7 through 10.
The majority of the beers he’s curated for the event will be making their Philadelphia debut. Many have never even been poured on U.S. soil before. One of them is so rare that it’s being hand-delivered by courier on the day of the tasting. The beers are a tie-in to the 23 guest artists visiting from Lithuania who will join the 195 American craft artists whose contemporary works make up the show.
This one-of-a-kind tasting runs one night only from 7 to 8:30 p.m. So if you want in on it, you better secure tickets immediately, and show up promptly.
