Garces Opening a Rosa Blanca Cafe at Dilworth Plaza

Garces Opening a Rosa Blanca Cafe at Dilworth Plaza

You can now add a Cuban cafe operated by an Iron Chef to the big tally of awesomeness coming our way when the newly revamped Dilworth Plaza (now called Dilworth Parkopens on September 4.

Along with new fountains, improved public spaces, greenery and a skating rink, the plaza will be home to an annexation of Rosa Blanca, the heavy on the Havana vibes diner Jose Garces opened on Chestnut Street last year. Philly Mag’s Joel Mathis reports Garces was on hand Tuesday when Center City District made the announcement.

It will be located on the JFK side of the plaza, be fully licensed to serve liquor and seat roughly 35. An outdoor area will accomodate another 20 or so more.

Like the original, the cafe will serve a menu of Cuban inspired fare all day. But at Dilworth Park, drinks will be available only after 5 PM on weekdays. On weekends, the bar will be open all day. There’s currently talk of "Mojitos on the Square."

For food, expect a more breakfast-y menu in the morning, and Cuban pressed sandwiches, salads and empanadas in the afternoon and evening.

Update: Rosa Blana is now open and ready for business.
