Zavino Owner to Open Sister Restaurant, Tredici

Greg Dodge’s Zavino empire is expanding even further, but this time, he’ll stay within the neighborhood. After opening a West Philly branch of his pizza flagship, Dodge has purchased the former Doggie Style space and will open Tredici (“thirteen” in Italian) right across the street from Zavino itself. Tredici will feature 50 seats, and its design will reportedly be airier and lighter than Zavino, which has become somewhat known for its dark corners and dim lighting.

Tredici’s menu, though still rooted in Italy, will also take inspiration from Spain, France, and Greece and will offer a wide and varied wine selection served according to a pretty interesting system. According to Jason Brooke, Director of Operations for the Zavino Hospitality Group, 30 wines will be available by the glass in 1/4th-of-a-bottle and 1/6th-of-a-bottle pours (6.34 oz and 3.17 oz, respectively), giving guests a chance to try a wider variety. They’ll also be offering an innovative 6-bottle cruvinet system, which will serve wines rarely (if ever) offered by the glass, from 1987 Rioja Blancos to Silveroaks and many more. They don’t have any beer on draft, but will serve it in bottles and cans, with 12 different varieties available. Cocktails will also be on hand, made with seasonal and fresh ingredients.

Tredici’s website isn’t yet up and running and the opening has been moved back a bit thanks to Popeageddon, but keep an eye out for opening news by mid-October.
