Earth Bread + Brewery Owners to Open New Brewpub in Fairmount

Bar Hygge is slated to open in the next few weeks (no specific date as of yet) at 1720 Fairmount Avenue and will bring a new brewpub to the Fairmount/Spring Garden neighborhood. This particular spot is the brainchild of two knowledgeable industry couples, Stew and Julie Keener (of Baggataway Tavern) and Tom Baker and Peggy Zwerver (of Earth Bread + Brewery), who aim to make Hygge (which, incidentally, is a Danish word which loosely translates to “camaraderie” and is pronounced “hoo-ga”) a cozy, neighborhood-y spot to grab a great glass of wine or beer and relax.
No food specifics yet -- though the food will reportedly be designed around the extensive drinks list rather than the other way around -- and no chef has yet been announced, but the drinks situation sounds extremely promising so far, with wine both in the bottle and on tap, house-made cocktails, and 10 beer taps in total (with six house and four guest, the latter of which will rotate frequently).

Word on the street is that the restaurant will serve Sunday brunch and will open at 4 PM every other day. All that said, we’ll report back as soon as the Hygge team sets an opening date.
