South Philly's Bok Bar Has Reopened For the Summer
Previously branded as “Le Bok Fin,” Bok Bar is back for the second year, bringing affordable bites and great views to South Philly. The spot is housed atop the former Bok Technical High School building at 1901 S 9th St.
The bar opened up last week and is owned by Lindsey Scannapieco (of Scout LTD) and operated by Stephen Yaeger (previously of Starr Restaurants and Baby Blues BBQ). The menu is a fusion of Filipino and Vietnamese flavors fronted by Chef Ronan Libunao. Libunao crafts dishes from his own experience at the Vietnamese bakery, Ba Le and his own Filipino background.
Some of the bites include scallion pancake, beef satay, pork sisig, and tofu or pork bahn mi — and all dishes are $7.50 and under. The drink menu includes lots of craft can and bottle options, including local favorites Neshaminy Creek Croydon Cream Ale and Victory Summer Love. Other out of town summer delights include Austin Eastcider's Pineapple Cider and Terrapin M’s Peach. All beers are priced between $5-$6. Wine lovers, fear not — there’s a selection of 10 wines which includes 2 roses, 3 whites, 3 reds, and 2 sparklings originating from California to South Africa.
The operation is reliant upon Mother Nature, so don’t prepare to go if it’s storming. There are plans in the works for a permanent location for Bok, but for now enjoy the space, as long as the season will allow.
