Butcher Bar in Rittenhouse Square Now Open

Butcher Bar, a new concept from the owners of Varga Bar focused on meat dishes and comfort foods, will open on Friday, September 2 in Rittenhouse Square at 2034 Chestnut.

Set in a cozy two-story house, Butcher Bar will be decorated with butchery-related items like meat cleavers and butcher knives while maintaining the vintage feel of a classic butcher shop. The windows will open during warmer months for great street views, and a centerpiece of the space will be a towering black and white marble staircase leading to the second level. Guests will even take numbered tickets from a classic TAKACHECK machine when there’s a wait for a table.

Menu items will include meat-centric selections like Sloppy Joe poutine, a Yards IPA sausage, classic Italian meatballs, and vegetarian dishes like The Hipster (a vegetable meatball with chickpea, summer corn, peppers, cheddar, alfalfa sprouts, romesco and avocado crème fraiche). Alongside these hearty dishes, you can find an extensive and varied 16-tap beer list and two cask engines, six wines on tap, and an innovative cocktail list, thanks to beverage director Richard Colli’s concepts for the space.

Check out Butcher Bar to satisfy your carnivorous cravings and try a new beer from their excellent selection.
