Where to Celebrate Belgian Independence Day in Philadelphia

Belgian National Day is commemorated on July 21, and that means this week you can celebrate the 186th year of Belgium’s independence all week. We’ve rounded up some of the great events honoring the beers and food of Belgium that will be taking place at bars around the city.
Beer-Infused Gelato
To celebrate the special day, Capogiro is making a boozy gelato featuring Brewery Ommegang’s Rosetta, a lambic aged withcherries. The gelato will be available at all five Capogiro locations on Friday, July 21. (119 South 13th St; 117 South 20th St.; 3925 Walnut St.; 1625 East Passyunk Ave.; 233 Chestnut St.)
Additionally, the spiked gelato will be available at the locations listed below that will also be serving beers from Ommegang and Brasserie d’Achouffe on the following days:

Head to this South Philly bar for a giant taste of Belgium on Belgian Independence Day. Guests can sip on brews including La Chouffe Golden, La Chouffe Houblon, Ommegang Witte, Ommegang Pale Sour, bottles of Duvel, and many more. Food specials include Ommegang infused dished like house pretzels with fruition beer mustard; Witte Mussels with leeks, herbs, goat cheese and lemon; braised short ribs with Pale Sour and vegetables. Of course they will also have Capogiro’s spiked Belgian gelato on hand for the party as well. (1148 S 11th St.)
Belgian Independence Weekend Extravaganza
Friday, July 21-Sunday, July 23
Over 30 Belgian brews will be on tap this weekend at this U City spot including Allagash White, Allagash Tripel, Allagash Dubbel, Ommegang Witte, Ommegang Hop House, Saison Dupont, Victory White Monkey, Moinette Blonde, and more. Food specials include classics like moules frites made with Belgian ale; ham, gruyere and endive croquettes; farmer’s board with fromage from Chimay Abbey, boudin blanc sausage, apple compote, cornichons, bister mustard and rustic bread; and Belgian waffles with fresh fruit, Nutella and whipped cream.
