Minnesota Shutdown Sends MillerCoors Packing

Minnesota Shutdown Sends MillerCoors Packing

We heard from our friends at Beer and Whiskey Bros. that MillerCoors has run into trouble in Minnesota, all because of the July 1st government shutdown.

If you haven't been keeping up, Minnesota has been trying to redo their budget. Since no one has agreed on anything just yet, the government has temporarily shut down, meaning (among many other things) that a number of beer licenses that were up for renewal simply couldn't be renewed - no one was available to file the paperwork.

As a result, major distributors such as MillerCoors have been forced to remove all of their brands from Minnesota store shelves.

This isn't such a huge issue at the moment, but if the shutdown continues for much longer, there's a good chance grace periods will end and beer companies will have a much tougher time getting their licenses renewed.

We'll keep our eyes on Minnesota and hope that the "Beer Crisis" doesn't reach further. Should it affect the craft industry, we might shed a few tears for them.
