Avast, ye tipplers! This coming Monday is “Talk Like a Pirate Day,” and with this important international holiday comes an opportunity to score some free grog. From 6–8 PM on September 19, Rittenhouse’s Rum Bar is giving a free sample of DonQ to patrons who dress or talk like a pirate. There will also be a slate of special $6 rum cocktails and $3 or $4 rum shots – rum being the buccaneer's traditional spirit of choice.
Talk Like a Pirate Day originated in Oregon, when two dudes playing raquetball (the most macho, pirate-like game out there) started talking in pirate-speak for fun. Somehow, the idea took off, and the pair (known as Ol’ Chumbucket and Cap’n Slappy) became minor celebrities, appearing on ABC’s Wife Swap and Jeopardy! They even published a book of pirate poetry and one on living the “pirate life.”
Over at Rum Bar, Cap’n Adam Kanter is ready to welcome you aboard. (In fact, Kanter just made it to the next level of the Tommy Bahama’s No. 1 Rumologist contest we told you about last week.) So slap on your eye patch, bandanna and peg-leg, ready your growls and go get your pirate booty this Monday.
