Khyber Pass Pub Turns One, Wants to Get You Tipsy

When the former narrow music venue at 2nd and Chestnut finally reopened as craft beer haven and Southern comfort food spot Khyber Pass Pub, any lamentations for the bygone rock house quickly stopped. This bar was just too good, too perfect, too quintessentially Philly. In the year that has passed, the Khyber became a go-to for city folk, thanks to their ever-changing draft list, gruff but kind bartenders, tasty bacon-grease popcorn and fantastic happy hour deals.
Today, November 29 – fresh of scoring the No. 1 spot on Foobooz’ annual Best 50 Bars list – the pub is celebrating its one year anniversary with a slew of specials that last all day and all night. The party has already started over at 56 S. 2nd Street, with $4 Ridgemont Reserve Manhattans offered from 11 AM on.
From 4–6 PM, happy hour is in effect, bringing $10 select pitchers, $1.50 domestic bottles, $4 frozen mint juleps, $2 off all drafts and $1 off everything else. Then, from 6–9 PM the goods go down, with $2 XXX Shine shots, $2 Sly Fox brews and $2 Bluecoat gin drinks. Late night, look for $2 drafts and $2 Buffalo Trace drinks from 9–11 PM.
