The firkins will soon be rolling into Yards Brewing Company for the 8th Annual Philadelphia Real Ale Invitational. Real ale, also known as cask ale, is beer that is naturally carbonated in a cask rather than force carbonated in a keg. Real ale is also unfiltered and unpasteurized, so one might say that it’s almost beer ‘au naturel’. This method was developed in England and embraced by Yards 20 years ago with the Extra Special Ale.
The Real Ale Invitational is an opportunity to sample over 40 firkins of real ale from across the country and across the pond. The festival takes place at the Yards Brewery on Sunday, April 19, and will be held rain or shine. In addition, plenty of food and music will accompany the firkins.
Tickets are available online now for $50 each. General admission tickets include a tasting glass, a festival guide, unlimited firkin tastings, food and music. Tickets will be $60 at the door, but this event has sold out the past three years in a row, so waiting to buy tickets is not recommended. Click here for more information or to buy tickets.
