Oscar Watch: Academy Awards Fun on Sunday, Feb 26

This Sunday is the occasion of the 84th Annual Academy Awards (and the 73rd time Billy Crystal will host, or something like that), and a few Philly spots are getting in on the golden statue fun.

Snag a comfortable seat in the swanky lounge at the Hotel Palomar’s Square 1682 to gaze at the stars on the big screen TVs there. During the show, enjoy a selection of cocktails created specially to honor this year’s nominees: The Tree Of Lime, Jack D's Honeyball, White Horse, Midnight In Campari, Hugo Soco, and The Ri Help. Pair the drinks with some of chef Guillermo Tellez’ addictive truffle popcorn and your movie experience will be complete. The sips are available all weekend for $11 each, or just $7 at happy hour, which runs 5–7 PM and 10 PM–midnight (and is being extended through Saturday and Sunday).

Alternately, head to Stephen Starr’s Frankford Hall in Fishtown for a more tongue-in-cheek approach to Hollywood’s biggest night. A red carpet will run the length of the restaurant, playing host to five of Philadelphia’s funniest comedians as they comment on and poke fun of the glitzy awards show. To make sure everyone has a blast, selected drafts, burgers and sausages will all be available at half-price.

And if you're looking to strut your own stuff, make a night of it at Northern Liberties' Standard Tap, where awards will be given out to patrons for best dressed, best acceptance speech and best guesses on Oscar winners. Pair your local drafts with the free popcorn as you watch the big screen upstairs.

Hollywood is ready to celebrate... are you?
