Susquehanna Ale Trail: Discover Central Pennsylvania's Craft Beer Secrets
Philadelphia may be a beer center, but two and a half hours west of the city is a way to experience craft brewing fun surrounded by rivers, valleys and rolling hills instead of asphalt and brick. The Susquehanna Ale Trail is a guide for exploring York County’s unexpectedly impressive collection of breweries and brewpubs.
The best way to get introduced to the brewhouses of the region is with the signature Susquehanna Ale Trail Passport events, which take place Friday–Sunday, April 12–14 and April 19–21. Your $15 ticket brings access to a collection of 13 breweries, brewpubs, craft brewing outlets and one distillery.
The group includes some names that will be familiar to any craft beer drinker: ever heard of Troegs or Stoudt’s? Along with those standbys you’ll visit Roy-Pitz, Rumspringa, Saint Boniface, Swashbuckler, Lancaster, Bube’s, Mudhook and Liquid Hero, all brewing companies. Old Republic Distillery is on the list, and so are Holly Hound Taproom, Warehouse Gourmet Brewpub and Mr. Steve’s Homebrew Supply.
Passport holders will be treated to tours, exclusive tastings, a souvenir mug and other special incentives at each location (think 10% off all merchandise). Your passport is good for both weekends, in case you want to split the trip. Designated driver passports are available for $5 each. These tickets are physical tickets, so if you want in on this month’s deal, order online before April 8. You can also purchase a passport at one of the participating locations.
