Home Brewed Events: Bespoke Beer and Brewing Knowledge at Your Doorstep
Meredith Rebar and Garrett Williams are both accomplished homebrewers, but they’re also something more — they’ve made it their mission to spread craft brewing knowledge far and wide. As Home Brewed Events, they offer beer and homebrewing education, as well as beer-focused event planning services and coordinated events that are open to the public.
A trio of events are coming up in early fall, so if you’re interested in exploring the world of Philadelphia beer, you’ll want to check these out:
Coffee and Beer Tasting at Mugshots Coffeehouse, September 25
Rebar and Williams have teamed up with coffee expert Adam Lees and are hosting an evening of beer, coffee and local cheese at Mugshots in Fairmount. For $45, you can join the Wednesday evening Sidetour, which runs 6:30–8:30 PM, and enjoy bites alongside sips of artisanal brews of two kinds - that from grain and that from coffee beans. Don’t miss the chance to explore the best techniques of making both drinks, while enjoying the products as you learn. Sign up here.
Intro to Homebrewing at 3rd Ward, October 6
Meredith and Garrett are hosting a hands-on evening on the roof deck of the Fishtown coworking space known as 3rd Ward. Attendees will participate in a two-hour class during which you’ll actually brew your own beer (the beer will take a month to be ready and you’ll get to take home two bottles of it at that time). Along the way, you’ll learn about the history, ingredients and brewing process, as well as have a bunch of fun. The class costs $35 and runs 4–7 PM. Register here.
Philly Give & Get: Maker Edition, October 10
Home Brewed Events is participating in this edition of the charity auctions held by Philly Give & Get, an innovative project that combines fun with good causes. Head to Johnny Brenda’s from 7–10 PM for a chance to bid on a session with the brew experts, as well as over a dozen other “makers,” from bakers to builders to artists and more. Tickets start at $12; find them here.
