With the latest inclusion to its Mad Scientists lineup of seasonal releases and other far-out one-offs, it would appear that Brooklyn’s Sixpoint Brewery is celebrating climate change with the release of Global Warmer. 

 

The new imperial red ale’s name certainly calls to mind the devastation Superstorm Sandy, widely considered nature’s punishment for the misdeeds we humans inflict upon our delicate planet, dealt Sixpoint’s home turf with rising tides that nearly washed the brewery away just a little more than a year ago. 

 

But that’s not the case at all. 

 

Though inspired in part by that hurricane and the widespread hurtin’ it brought with it, like the rest of the Mad Scientists lot, this wintertime brew is actually meant as a salute to the beer world’s ongoing efforts to push past limits defined by contemporary styles. 

 

Weighing in at seven percent ABV, it’s marked by a rich toasted malt character and a far more generous hop presence than what established guidelines prescribe, Sixpoint calls Global Warmer its answer to the “rapidly changing beer climate.”

 

It’s the third from the Brooklyn beer-maker’s ongoing series to make the leap from kegs to cans, and should enjoy a much wider distribution than draft-only releases.
