The Garage Gets Its Food Cart Rolling
Word from South Philly’s Garage, the bar that Vintage and Time owner Jason Evanchick opened last summer in a former auto-body shop sandwiched between cheesesteak titans Geno’s and Pat’s on Passyunk Avenue, has the long-awaited debut of its food cart coming on Tues., Jan. 28.
As you will recall, when first opened, the plan was to have a regularly rotating roster of guests chefs serving street food from the cart, which is permanently parked in the Garage’s bay. Since it’s the first of its kind, the cart, as you might imagine, encountered some red-tape. But now that it's been deemed up-to-code, Evanchcik and his crew can finally fire the thing up. To help break it in, they are welcoming Chef Mackenzie Hilton, the local culinary star who’s appeared on the Food Network’s Chopped! and currently holds down the kitchen at Tavern on Camac.
She’s going to serve a menu of sliders with scratch-made fixin’s. Selections include House-cured and slow-cooked pork belly with kimchi, scallion aioli and cilantro; Pineland Farm’s all-natural beef with butter lettuce and tomato; cheeseburger slider with Cotswold cheese, butter lettuce and tomato; and a mushroom, black bean and miso and soy burger. Each will cost $4, or two for $7.
