The Third Annual Lemon Society Speakeasy, Sat., March 22

A fundraiser for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation
The Third Annual Lemon Society Speakeasy, Sat., March 22

Last October Drink Philly rounded-up Seven Must-Visit Hidden Bars for your rounds-making pleasure, but one spot that wasn’t on that list, the Lemon Society Speakeasy, is so special that we purposely left it out. That and the fact that you only get one chance a year to sip its near untouchable cocktails. Still, it's all for a good cause.

That one night is coming around again on Saturday, March 22, when the The Lemon Society of Philadelphia throws its Third Annual Lemon Society Speakeasy benefiting Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) at The Pyramid Club. Get tickets, get spiffy, and get ready to hoist a glass. Proceeds from the event help fund ALSF’s annual Childhood Cancer Symposium for pediatric cancer research and support for families affected by childhood cancer. Last year’s Speakeasy raised more than $30,000. Can they beat that this year?

This annual Prohibition-themed event features fabulous food and delicious desserts with beer, wine and soft drinks. Have fun in the photo booth and swing to DJ Lisa Parks spinning the sounds of the times. There will also be a short program emceed by Noah Coslov of CineSport, CBS Sports Network and SiriusXM NBA Radio and some special ALSF heroes.

But this is a speakeasy, so what about the booze?

Party goers at this premier event can expect beautifully crafted cocktails made by some of the city’s top mixologists who will be competing for the coveted Spirit of the Speakeasy (by judge vote) and People’s Choice awards (by attendee vote). Confirmed bartenders so far include Alla Spina’s Ryan Elmore, Southwark's Molly O'Rourke, The Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co.'s Christina Rondo, Bank & Bourbon’s Brian Bevilacqua and a pro to be announced from The Gaslight. The current list of judges include Liz Scott, Alex's mom and co-executive director of ALSF; Marshall Harris of Comcast SportsNet; and yours truly. The Philadelphia Distilling Company is signed on as the liquor sponsor again.

Keep-up with news about this special event on the Lemon Society’s event website and their Facebook event page. For more information, email Jenna Jackson. Sponsorship opportunities are still available!

Since 2009, The Lemon Society of Philadelphia (LSP) has been dedicated to fulfilling the vision of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. In addition to the annual speakeasies, the LSP also hosts other fundraising events including happy hours and their signature Lemon Society Wine Mixer. Visit the LSP site for membership information. There are also chapters in New York and Los Angeles.
