The Brewers Art Gets a Cease and Desist Letter From Ozzy Osbourne

Over his storied, decades-long career, rock legend Ozzy Osbourne has been called a lot of different things. The Madman. The Godfather of Heavy Metal. The Prince of Darkness. But never a buzzkill. At least not until now.

Baltimore City Paper reports that The Brewers Art recently received a cease and desist letter from representatives for his Ozz-ness concerning the name of its popular Belgian strong ale.

As nod to the longstanding Belgian tradition of giving similar styled golden ales devilish names like Duvel, Lucifer and Satan, Brewers Art christened their own with the former Black Sabbath frontman’s assumed moniker. As an aside, it’s worth noting that Osbourne’s given name is John. For the past year, that brew has been shipping in aluminum cans emblazoned with a logo that features a fist tattooed with “OZZY” — much like the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame-r’s own — as well as bats, one of which is bloody and headless.

Apparently that all hits a little too close to home for the Ozzman.

Right now, negotiations are reportedly underway, but parties involved are remaining tightlipped about any possible outcome. If Ozz previals, we suppose Brewers Art could always change the name of the disputed beer to Danzig.
