Join Jose Garces for a BBQ at Luna Farm Benefiting The Garces Foundation, Sat., June 7
An afternoon with Chef Jose Garces at his Luna Farm in Bucks County is about as close as most of Philadelphia’s food- and drink-obsessed will ever get to making the rounds at the chocolate factory with Willy Wonka.
That rare opportunity will present itself on Saturday, June 7, when Graces and his wife, Dr. Beatriz Mirabal Garces, host The Garces Foundation Summer Barbecue.
Everything on the 40-acre farm — from fields of organic produce to greenhouses to the mushroom logs — is grown and nurtured to the Iron Chef’s specifications for use in his restaurants. While there, guests will get an inside look at it all with guided tours led by Garces and his farm manager Jillian Herschlag.
Garces Catering, OinkJohnson, Fat Jack’s BBQ, Moo, Owowcow, Rosati Ice, and Robeksand will serve a barbecue lunch that features locally sourced goods. For those 21 and older, there will also be beer, margaritas and wine.
Other activities include a Luna Farm kale cooking demo; make and take herb seed plantings; a book signing with Garces; and hikes around the property.
Tickets for the barbecue cost $60 per person ($30 for kids 12 and younger). Park at Wehrung’s Lumber and Home Center at 7711 Easton Road in Ottsville, or meet at Garces Dental, 212 Race Street, in Old City, Philadelphia. A shuttle will transport guests to and from Luna Farm.
All proceeds will go to the Garces Foundation to help its ongoing mission to provide Philadelphia’s vibrant and growing immigrant community with access to healthcare and education.
