Bartenders Al Sotack and Colin Shearn Return to Franklin Mortgage to Kick Off Its Five Year Anniversary Celebrations
Franklin Mortgage & Investment Company, the Center City bar that sparked Philadelphia’s cocktail renaissance when it opened back in 2009, is coming up on its Five Year Anniversary on June 19th.
But in the run-up to that milestone, the bar and the talented team of bartenders behind it, are bringing in some of its distinguished alumni to help with the celebrations.
It all kicks off on Sunday, June 15, with former Head Bartender Al Sotack and OG GM, Colin Shearn, back behind the stick, mixing, shaking and pouring some of the cocktails that helped put the bar on the map. Current Head Bartender Mike "Juice" Treffehn will be barbacking. Check out the special throwback menu, which revists some of the more popular drinks they served from 2009 to 2012, they will be working from here.
Since exiting the Franklin Mortgage fold, Sotack returned to his post at New York’s Death & Co. He also moonlights at Donna Cocktail Club. Shearn ran several notable bars in Louisville, Kentucky, including the St. Charles Exchange and El Camino, before heading further west to Los Angeles where he just opened Beelmans Pub.
Next up, on Tuesday, June 17, Franklin Mortgage welcomes back its opening crew Nick Jarrett and Katy Linck for the evening. Jarrett kicked around New York following his departure from Philadelphia, tending bar at such institutions as Clover Club, Dram and Bushwick Country Country Club. He currently resides in New Orleans where he can be found behind the bar at The Saint Bar & Lounge and the renowned Cure. Linck still lives in Philly, and works at Rouge. Check out the special, one-night-only cocktail menu they will be serving here.
Then on Thursday, June 19, Franklin Mortgage will celebrate its official five year anniversary with a menu featuring one ingredient (shot), two ingredient (shot and beer) and three, four and five ingredient cocktails. There will also be plenty of sparkling for everyone, as well as Old Grandad bonded — Franklin Mortgage’s unofficial drink — going around.
