3rd Annual Dog Days of Summer Cook-Off Returns to the Shambles, July 19

3rd Annual Dog Days of Summer Cook-Off Returns to the Shambles, July 19

July is National Hot Dog Month and what better way to celebrate than with a hot dog competition off South Street. The Dog Days of Summer Cook-Off is back for a third year of grilled, meaty goodness.

20 restaurants and food trucks will compete head-to-head for the title of Philly’s Top Grill Master on Saturday, July 19. The competition will pit dog against dog and sausage against sausage in one of the meatiest competitions of the summer. This year’s participants include:
Alla Spina
Bistro Romano
Brauhaus Schmitz
BrazBQ
Bridget Foy’s
Cavanaugh’s
Cherry Bomb Bus
Chewy’s
Copabanana
Headhouse Oyster & Crab Co.
Hot Diggity!
Industry Bar
Lucky’s Last Chance
MisConduct Tavern
Noir
Rex 1516
Serrano Restaurant
Society Hill Society
Tap Room on 19th
Twisted Tail

Judges for the competition include fellow chefs, members of the media, and celebrities, while hot dog loving members of the public will be able to vote for their “fan favorite” dog. Some of the announced judges include Marc Summers, Matt Cord, Danya Henninger, Michael Klein, Drew Lazor, Josh Middleton, Audra Neff, Carly Szkaradnik, and Julia West.

There will also be an amateur Philly-themed, condiment competition that you can enter. Think local ingredients, Philadelphia sports, street names, neighborhoods, anything you want. The winner’s dog will be featured at Hot Diggity! for a whole month. Check out Hot Diggity!’s Facebook for more information and email Keith Garabedian (keith@thehotdiggity.com) to nominate yourself to compete.

Hot dogs aren’t the only thing on the menu however. Attendees will be able to enjoy beers by Victory Brewing and 5 O'Clock Brew and natural, fruity pops by Mom Pops. There will also be live music by Black Stars and plenty of summer fun.

Attending the event is free, but tickets are required for food and drink. Tickets are available 4 for $10, 15 for $30 or as a $30 VIP bundle which includes early admission, a VIP gift, and 20 food and drink tickets. All proceeds will go directly to supporting the preservation of the historic Headhouse Square Shambles. Grab your tickets here and we’ll see ya at the wienie roast.
