Brauhaus Schmitz Hosts World Cup Final Block Party, Sun., July 13
After a month of exciting and unexpected matches, the World Cup comes to an end on Sunday, July 13 as Germany faces off against Argentina on the pitch in Brazil at 3 p.m. EST. And with Germany looking to nab their fourth title — the first since 1990 — what better place to celebrate than South Street’s own German beer hall Brauhaus Schmitz?
The bar and restaurant has been holding special World Cup events for the last month, but they’re pulling out all the stops for the Final with a free outdoor screening. Owner Douglas Hager is shutting down the 700 block of South Street from noon to 6 p.m. and bringing in a 20 foot jumbo screen for guests to watch outdoors. And Brauhaus has teamed up with local food trucks and food vendors to serve bites from all over the world all day long, including:
Mom Mom’s Food Cart
Guerilla Ultima
The Hot Diggity
Taco Mondo
Along with food, Brauhaus Schmitz will be selling Warsteiner beers for $5 for all attending outdoors. VIP Brauer Bund tickets- which sold out in about 18 hours after Germany’s unforgettable win over Brazil- grant access to the select few inside. But don’t worry: There will be restrooms and plenty of space to watch the game for fans outside. Be prepared to grab your spot, as space is first-come-first-serve, standing room only. But with a 20-foot screen, it shouldn’t be too hard to find a good view of the game.
