Cooperage Wine and Whiskey Bar to Offer Whiskey Classes Beginning This May

Sure, you say you like whiskey, but how much to do you really know about this popular spirit? Cooperage Wine and Whiskey Bar is launching a new program this May that will teach you to sip and savor with the best of them.

Starting Saturday, May 9, Cooperage will begin offering weekly whiskey classes that will expand your palette and your mind. Classes will be held at 4 PM and include an informational talk about the day’s topic and a flight of four featured whiskeys plus a surprise whiskey that will be revealed at the end of each class. Classes are $20-25 per person, depending upon which whiskeys are featured that week.

Check out the class schedule listed below for dates and topics. If you’re interested in attending a class, call 215-226-2667 to reserve a seat.

Bourbon Basics, May 9
Exploring the mash bills, production and history of bourbon.

Irish Whiskey, May 16
Topics include the Whiskey Wars, Blended versus Single Malt and the history, laws and religious preferences surrounding Irish whiskey.

American Rye, May 23
Exploring the history of Pennsylvania Rye, Aged versus Unaged Rye and the rises and falls of Rye’s popularity.

Four Brothers, May 30
This class will focus on Jim Beam/Dundry Distillery and elite brands like Bakers, Bookers and Basil Hayden’s.

Scotch 101, June 6
Explore the history and landscape of Scotch, and compare Blended Scotches with Single Malts.

If you can’t make any of the classes, you can still stop by Cooperage anytime for a great glass of whiskey, or you could even try a flight if you’re feeling adventurous. Cooperage has over 90 different kinds of whiskey on the menu, plus a few new bottles that might not be on the list yet. If you do stop by for a dram, be sure to ask your server what new whiskeys are available because you just might want to order off menu.
