Chart Shows How Badly Major League Baseball Stadiums Are Ripping Us off for Beer

by Talia Aroshas on Apr 22, 2015 in Culture

It's beginning to smell a lot like summer, and for America, that implies one very important thing: baseball season is here. The nation's most favorite pastime since forever, baseball draws in spectators from all walks of life who gather together for the love of the game, the love of the hot dogs and, of course, the love of the beer.

The good news for beer lovers this season is that it seems that the average price of a small draft beer has decreased from $6.09 to $5.98 at Major League Baseball games, according to Team Marketing Report. It's important to note, however, that prices do differ from stadium to stadium. Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs hold the title for most expensive pours at $7.75 for a small beer, while Cleveland Indians and Arizona Diamondbacks fall on the opposite end of the spectrum at just $4.00 for a beer of the same 'small' size.

This chart changes a bit though when we consider how the beer is priced per ounce, and how many ounces are in each beer: For example, the Boston Red Sox stand as most expensive at $0.65 per ounce (12 ounces in a small beer), but the Los Angeles Angels come in last when examined this way at $0.28 per ounce (16 ounces), with the Arizona Diamondbacks pulling in second to last at $0.29 per ounce (14 ounces).
