New Center City Beer Garden Opens Just in Time for Independence Day
Yes, you read that right. Philadelphia is now home to yet another beer garden, and it opens tonight, July 1. This newest outdoor watering hole, Uptown Beer Garden, is located in the heart of Philly’s business district tucked into the spacious courtyard of the BNY Mellon Building at 1735 JFK Boulevard.
Teddy Sourias, owner of BRU Craft & Wurst, U-Bahn, and Finn McCool’s, is the mastermind behind Uptown Beer Garden. “I love outdoor spaces and have always dreamed of opening a rooftop or patio bar,” said Sourias. He really went all out with his dream seeing as how the beer garden is 9,000 square feet, making it 3,000 square feet larger than BRU and U-Bahn combined.
UBG features picnic tables, granite benches, and tree slab communal tables all enclosed in the tree-lined courtyard. The beer garden also features a 35-foot bar stocked with a full selection of spirits, wines, six craft drafts and close to a dozen craft cans. The bar will also be serving up signature cocktails like frozen margaritas, stone fruit and berry red sangria, and peach and apricot white sangria while the kitchen will be turning out snacks like pretzels with spicy beer mustard, BBQ tofu summer rolls, seared tuna and pulled duck sliders, as well as sweet treats like mint chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches.
Uptown Beer Garden opens tonight, July 1 at 4 PM and run through September. Currently, the hours for the garden are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 5–10 PM, Wednesday from 4 PM –12 AM, and Friday and Saturday from 2 PM–12 AM. Happy hour runs Monday through Saturday from 5–7 PM with $3 beer and $5 wurst sandwich specials. Look for an expanded happy hour on Wednesdays with specials like $5 cocktails, $4 wines, $3 drafts, and half-price selected apps running from 4–7 PM.
If you’re an animal lover, you’ll be happy to know that a portion of the proceeds from UBG will be donated to the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society. UBG also plans to hold special Yappy Hours. Details on that coming soon.
