The New Bar Menu at Volver Features Impressive, Savory Cocktails
After a short hiatus, Bar Volvér is back and the happy hour is definitely not to be missed. The new cocktail menu features some very unique libations that'll tickle the fancy of drinkers who are looking for more than the usual riffs on brown stirred cocktails.
There is some impressive garden-to-glass inspiration happening with some standout savory cocktails including:
Truffle Rush, made with Old Grand-Dad bonded bourbon, truffle, lavender, honey, and lemon. A curious concoction that hits all the right notes. Sipping it you can taste how each ingredient balances and compliments each other. The honey and lemon play nicely with the bourbon and truffle. This is definitely one of the more memorable cocktails that you can drink in Philly right now.
Once Upon a Thyme in Mexico, made with Herradura Reposado, dry curaçao, Americano, and red bell pepper. New beverage director Gordana Kostovski is a self professed tequila fan, and this drink is a beautiful savory drinking option. The aromatics of the red bell pepper and the thyme garnish definitely puts it in a different category than what you're used to when it comes to tequila drinks. It goes down easy and is super refreshing.
Basil Chili Smash, made with local Bluecoat gin, lemon, basil, and chili oil. You might see this as a regular fixture on the happy hour menu, and don't be intimidated by the oil. Overall, the drink is citrusy and refreshing. Again the aromatics are a standout with the beautiful garnishes of a fresh basil leaf and chili oil dots for color. This one will definitely be one of the most instagrammed on the menu.
If cocktails aren't your thing, the happy hour menu also includes great craft beer and wine specials. Definitely give the Vinho Verde a try for something super crisp as the dog days of summer wind down.
You won't leave hungry with snacks like, lamb burgers, ham tartines, puffy tacos stuffed with veal short rib barbacoa, refried beans, goat cheese, apple and pickled cabbage, and the very creative paella maki roll which has shrimp, chorizo, piquillo peppers, and, yes, the saffron rice is crispy as it should be with paella!
Bar Volvér is open Wednesday through Sunday with happy hour running from 5 to 7:30 PM. Look for live music and rotating specials.
