Lonely Planet Ranks Philadelphia No. 1 Travel Destination in U.S.: Cites Craft Breweries as a Reason

Philly has been receiving all sorts of accolades and honors in the past year or two, and The Lonely Planet has noticed, ranking the City of Brotherly Love as the #1 Best U.S. City to Visit In 2016.
The Lonely Planet mentions a few of Philly’s recent and huge accomplishments — snagging the Democratic National Convention, our big visit from the Pope, and our newly gained title of the first UNESCO World Heritage City in the United States — but also name-checks our amazing restaurant scene and, of course, our craft beer revolution.
It’s no secret that Philly has transformed into an amazing craft beer epicenter over the years, with Yards, Victory, Philadelphia Brewing Company, and a huge number of independent brewpubs paving the way for Philly’s beer renaissance. Though loyal Philadelphians always feel the need to defend our fair city to anyone who will listen, ranking high on lists like The Lonely Planet’s are just the first step to being globally recognized as the cool, vibrant, and great food-and-drink city that we are.
