PHS Pop Up Beer Gardens Locations and Opening Date Announced
With warm weather comes outdoor dining and drinking, and this season, the PHS Pop Up Gardens are adding a new location to their list of repurposed spaces. Both beer gardens will open on Wednesday, June 1.
The Viaduct Rail Park at 10th and Hamilton will be transformed into a green urban space inspired by the historic Reading Railroad that once operated there. Artist Abby Sohn will create a site-specific sound installation under the viaduct that will celebrate and explore the potential of the underutilized rail site. The menu at the Pop Up will be created by Top Chef alum Jason Cichonski (of ELA and The Gaslight) and Chef Sylva Senat (of Dos Tacos). As for the bar, drink options will feature six taps as well as canned beer, various wines, and a selection of cocktails.
PHS is also developing a season of special programming, including horticulture workshops on urban gardening, making hot sauce, winning a ribbon at the Philadelphia Flower Show, and more. Keep an eye out for themed dinners and events like 90’s Night.
In addition to the new site at the Viaduct Rail Park, PHS is returning to its flagship location at 15th and South Streets. This year’s park will be designed by Karen Regan of Tallulah & Bird and will feature an array of greenery and flowers, including roses, herbs, hop vines, colorful blooms, and a mulberry tree that will be lit at night.
South Street’s menu this year will be created by the Khyber Pass Pub and will feature Italian charcuterie, sweet potato summer rolls, and more. The Botanical Bar will offer craft beers and cocktails with themed nights like Margarita Mondays, Brewsday Tuesdays, and South Street Gulps on Wednesdays.
Head to either (or both) of the parks on opening day, June 1. Membership is free, and you can get a patron card in advance on the PHS website.
