Where to Watch the 2016 Summer Olympics in Philly

As if this summer needed any more excitement, the 2016 Rio Olympic Games kick off on Friday, August 5. If you can’t make it to South America, you can catch all the action at local bars and restaurants hosting special watch parties and serving up gold medal worthy deals. So swim, sprint, or even triple jump over to one of these spots in the next two weeks to watch America do its thing.

The Schmidts Commons
Bring your own chair or blanket to the newly renamed Schmidts Commons (the Piazza) and watch the live opening ceremony of the games on Friday, August 5 at 7PM. Gunner’s Run, located in the Commons, will be serving half priced Caipirinhas (Brazil’s national cocktail) during the ceremony. (1001 N 2nd St #21; 215-825-7552)

Square 1682
This spot at the Hotel Palomar is offering a Superfood Lunch Tray with a Superfood Salad for $20.50 with a complimentary 8 oz juice, which you’re free to spike with cachaca if you so please! From 5 PM onwards on Friday, August 5, the bar will be serving $9 Caipirinhas and will keep doing so until the games are over. (121 S 17th St.; 215-563-5008)

PHS Pop Up Garden, South Street
Visit this South Street pop up Friday, August 5 through Sunday, August 7 for Olympic themed deals! Drink specials include The Silver (Sauza Silver, Serrano simple syrup, and soda); The Gold (Sauza Gold, Serrano simple syrup, lemon, bitters); and red, white and blue Jell-o shots! All for $6. Cuba Libre
Celebrate the Olympics with a Rio themed dance party on Saturday, August 6 at 10:30 PM. It also happens to be Rum Month at this Latin American restaurant, so stop by anytime during the month for special half priced rum drinks and flights. (10 S 2nd St.; 215-627-0666)

Tir Na Nog
Check out the games at this Irish pub in Center City. They’ll be celebrating the USA Men’s Olympic Rugby team August 9, 10, & 11 with all the games broadcast on their TVs with sound. They’ll also be offering food & drink specials throughout the Olympics, so keep an eye out for more info! (1600 Arch St.; 267-514-1700)

PHS Pop Up Garden, Viaduct Park
Get in the spirit of the games with a Stones Tournament from 3-6pm on August 13th. Each team will receive a complimentary drink at the bar, and sweet prizes will be awarded to the winners. Don’t know what the game of stones entails? Read about it here. (500 N 10th St.)

BlueCross RiverRink Summerfest
Compete in the 2016 Summerfest Games! On Wednesday, August 17 from 6 PM - 9 PM, challenge yourself with a skating agility course, mini golf, and other lawn games. They will also host an Olympic themed quizzo at 6:30 PM for all you trivia buffs. During the event, get an order of Chickie’s and Pete’s Crabfries paired with either a cheesesteak or boneless wings and a 12oz Budweiser draft for only $16. City Tap House
Head to Tap House’s Logan Square or University City locations for $5 Victory Brewing Company beers during all the events! They’ll be broadcasting all of the Olympic games on their huge video screens (with sound). (Multiple locations)

Drury Beer Garden at Opa
You can catch the Olympics at this cozy outdoor spot in Midtown. If you plan on heading here with a group of six people or more, you can grab some special deals at the beer garden like a Mussels Dinner for $25 per person or a Pig Roast for $35 per person.  You just have to give 24 hours notice. Craftsman Row
This Jeweler’s Row joint will be screening the Olympic games fro the next two weeks. If an event you like is on during happy hour (4 PM - 7 PM) you can grab $3 cans, bottles, and draft beers; $5 wines and well drinks, and discounted snacks at the bar. (112 S 8th St.; 215-923-0123)

Field House
This is an obvious choice for a spot to catch any of the games. Field House has tons of TVs, craft beers, and games to play and enjoy. If you’re a SEPTA Regional Rail rider, you can even grab a special $4 Yards Draft deal if you show your ticket during the games. (1150 Filbert St.; 215-720-1876)

O’Neals Pub
Cheer on Team USA at O’Neals Pub on South Street. They’ll be broadcasting all of the games live all day from open until close and will have food/drink specials to enjoy along with it. (611 S 3rd St.; 215-574-9495)

Sto’s Bar
Catch all the Olympic action at Sto’s in Old City. They be screening all the games on their TVs as well at at their outdoor beer garden (240 Market St) next door. Daily special include $9 Rolling Rock, $10 Walt Wit pitchers, and $5 shots. (236 Market St.; 267-687-8653)

McGillin’s
Watch all of the games live at this classic pub — they’ll even have an Olympic themed menu  including the Red, White & Bleu burger and a Star Spangled Salad. Drinks include Caipirinhas (Cachaca, margarita mix, fresh lime); The Gold Medal (Vanilla vodka, goldschlager, and a gold sugar rim); the Olympic Cocktail (layered Strawberry Daiquiri, Pina Colada, Blue Curacao, & rum); and The Silver and Bronze (Pint of McGillin’s “Bronze” House Ale & a shot of Patron Silver).
