Mission Taqueria Opens Thursday, August 11 Above Oyster House
On Thursday, August 11, Mission Taqueria, a new concept from Oyster House owner Sam Mink and partner Brett Naylor, will open right above his classic raw bar at 1516 Sansom Street for daily service from 5 PM until late (with Sunday brunch forthcoming).
The opening menu, which was created by Naylor and Chef Andrew Sabin, features everything from small plates like various types of ceviche, empanadas, a selection of salsas, and pineapple-habanero chicken wings, a full list of tacos (including grilled shrimp and chicken in mole negro), and larger plates like lamb barbacoa that are designed to share.
The bar’s most unique feature is that most of the cocktails will be made using freshly pressed juice made in-house at a juice bar located directly next to the kitchen. The cocktail list is curated entirely by Christina Rando, a veteran bartender hailing from Brick & Mortar and The Franklin. Ranging from $7 to $12 per cocktail, choices include the Oaxacan Old Fashioned (mescal, agave, bitters and orange) and the Bee Sting (tequila, lemon and jalapeño-infused honey).
Of course, the bar offers a great selection of margaritas, including guava, tamarind, and one made with a fresh-pressed kale and celery green juice.
The agave spirit selection, from tequila to mezcal, will be quite extensive, and alongside a beer and wine list and eight taps, there will be draft margaritas and a draft tequila-based Negroni known as the Rosita.
The space’s concept is inspired by both The Mission District and Mexico City and will be an open, welcoming space filled with natural light, thanks to the six skylights and open-air courtyard directly in its center.
Seating includes chic banquettes and picnic-style tables, and a foosball table sits directly next to the staircase in case you want a side of competition with your margaritas.
Between the bar and the main kitchen, there are plenty of spots to sit and enjoy anything from a cocktail or two to a full meal, and while you do so, you can look out at Sansom Street through the space’s wide windows.
Stop by Mission starting on August 11 and taste-test Mink and Naylor’s newest, inspired venue.
