Kurant Cidery is Opening Up Shop in Fishtown
Fishtown's brewery boom just got even bigger thanks to a new tenant, Kurant Cider, which is moving in to 436 E Girard Ave.
Joe Getz and Michael Meyers, founders of the small batch cidery based in Perkasie, began cider production around the end of May 2015 after a year of playing around with the concept. Getz, whose brewing interest sparked after receiving a homebrew kit for Christmas about eight or nine years ago, met Meyers while buying brewing equipment.
When Philly.com asked about the Fishtown location, Getz said, “I’m there all the time. There’s a great collaborative environment there."
Construction will begin soon on the taproom and test kitchen that will accompany a small brewing system in the space. The company plans to still produce most of their ciders in Bucks County where they currently have a lease from Free Will Brewing.
The brews plans to feature other local Pennsylvania wines, beer and spirits on their menu. Kurant is set to open in August of 2017.
