Mike Solomonov's Rooster Soup Co. is Now Open
Rooster Soup Company, a restaurant featuring a charitable collaboration between Federal Donuts and Broad Street Ministry, is set to open at 1526 Sansom Street on Monday, January 23, according to Philly.com.
Rooster Soup Co will be donating 100% of its daily net profits to Broad Street’s Hospitality Collaborative. The Hospitality Collaborative’s mission is to feed, clothe and support those in need such as the homeless community in Philadelphia. The restaurant concept started as a Kickstarter project in 2014 and raised over $179,000 in funding.
The menu is luncheonette-style with four soups, sandwiches, and salads served daily. They will also serve breakfast until 11 AM, think homemade chorizo, sticky buns and dinner will be a varying selection of comfort foods like meatloaf and beef stew. The menu will have vegetarian options as well as desserts such as Dutch apple pie and shakes.
Chef Erin O’Shea, formerly of Percy Street BBQ, will front the kitchen providing a touch of both Southern and Jewish style cooking flair to the menu with items like smoked matzo ball soup and biscuits and gravy. The chef will also cook with unused chicken backs from FedNuts, making the project even more sustainable.
Best of all, the charitable diner will have a liquor license. The drink selections will include four beers, wine, and cocktails.
Rooster Soup Co will have counter space for 18 and a dining room fitting 40. They will be open 8 AM to 8 PM daily.
