Guinness is Releasing Its Own Irish Whiskey

It’s hard to think of a beverage more Irish than Guinness. The dark, foamy stout has become synonymous with Irish drinking culture and St. Patrick’s Day. However, Irish whiskey is quickly rising in popularity again after a few decades of relative obscurity. It just makes sense, then, that Guinness's parent company, Diageo, would get into the whiskey market with Roe & Coe, a blended Irish whiskey set to be released in time for St. Patrick’s Day.
At the moment, Roe & Coe will only be available in select European markets, Irish Times reports. Master Distiller Caroline Martin is currently bringing in whiskey from other distilleries and blending it to develop the product. Starting in early 2019, however, the Roe & Co distillery will begin operation and production in an old Guinness factory in Dublin. The factory once neighbored George Roe’s whiskey distillery in the 18th century, and the new whiskey from Diageo honors its memory with the choice of name.
Bottles of this blended Irish whiskey will retail at €35, and will eventually reach the American markets in 2019 when production begins in earnest.
