Where to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day 2017 in Philadelphia

by Jessie Donofrio on Mar 9, 2017 in Roundups

Spring is almost here and with that comes the blooming of foliage, birds chirping, sunny skies and one of the biggest drinking holidays of the year! Put on your lucky t-shirt, get your green socks out of storage and pick a clover to tuck behind your ear because these are the best events and drink specials going on for St. Patrick’s Day 2017 in Philadelphia.

The St. Patrick’s Day parade is one with a very long and rich history in this city. The parade takes place Sunday, March 12 with a new route which will start at 16th and JFK and make its way to Old City along Market Street. Performances will take place at 6th and Market. The new route also makes for a perfect Old City bar afterwards. Free to attend, 12-3 PM. (16th and JFK to Front and Market)

Have off work or have been looking for a reason to take off? Look no further than this Old City St. Patrick’s Day bar crawl which will take place on the 17th from 12-8 PM. $15 ticket secures you drink specials, no covers, St. Patty’s swag, DJs and entertainment and a free t-shirt to the first 200 guests. Participating bars include: The Gaslight, Lucha Cartel, JJ Bootleggers, Silence Dogood’s Tavern, Marmont, Common Wealth, Infusion Lounge, National Mechanics, Las Vegas Lounge, and Sto’s Bar. (Various locations)

Head to Cav’s on St.Patrick’s Day for $3.75 Bud Light bottles, $5 Fireball shots, and $6 Bulleit shots or mixed drinks. WMMR will also be broadcasting on site from 3 PM- midnight. (421 S 2nd St.; 215-928-930

Obviously all of the Cavanaugh’s locations are throwing down this St. Patty’s day so throw on some green and celebrate at this location with $3.95 rotating pints, $6 select mixed drinks, $5 Absolut single drinks and $9 double drinks. (119 S 39th St.; 215-386-4889)

Last but not least if you’re in the Rittenhouse area and are craving some Cav’s head there for $3.75 Miller Lite drafts and $6 Bulleit shots or mixed drinks on the big day. (1823 Sansom St.; 215-665-9500)

Visit this Center City Celtic bar as early as 7 AM on the big day. There will be live music all day and a cover of $5 after 1 PM. (1500 Locust St.; 215-893-9700)

The party begins at Field House at 6 AM on St. Patrick’s Day with none other than Preston & Steve broadcasting live from the bar. The first 93 guests will get a free MMR St. Pat’s pint glass.  (1150 Filbert St.; 215-629-1520)

It’s all in the name and visiting this establishment (at either of their Center City locations) is sure to be a good time especially during March which is basically Irish month. The bar will be running Bud light and Budweiser specials all month long as well as giving out free t-shirts to any red headed guests. Stop in early on the 17th as the bar opens at 10 AM. The guys from WMMR are also hosting the midportion of their day’s broadcast from the Irish Pub’s 12th Street location from 10:30 AM- 3 PM with Pierre Robert.  (2007 Walnut St.; 215-568-5603; 1123 Walnut St.; 215-925-3311)

Throw on your best green outfit and celebrate all things Irish at McGillins. They’ll be open an hour early, at 10 AM, on the big day serving up green beer and Irish stouts. They also currently have Irish food specials and their special Irish Potato Martini available (whipped cream vodka, sweetened coconut milk, and Malibu rum served in a glass rimmed with coconut and cinnamon sugar). (1310 Drury St; 215-735-5562)
