Where to Celebrate 2017 Memorial Day Weekend in Philadelphia

by Jessie Donofrio on May 24, 2017 in Roundups

Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 29, and with an added day to the weekend means additional opportunities for fun, and imbibing. We’ve rounded up the best events going on in Philadelphia this weekend, so skip the shore and soak up the sun with a cold beer in hand in our beautiful city.

FDR Park
Wednesday, May 24-Monday, May 29, Varying hours
Philadelphia’s traveling beer garden has returned, and for its second week it will be at the gazebo at FDR Park in South Philly. Sip on local drafts and frozen cocktails along with sandwiches and snacks all holiday weekend long. Hours are Wednesday and Thursday 5 PM-10 PM, Friday and Saturday 1 PM-11 PM, Sunday and Monday 12 PM-10 PM. (1500 Pattison Ave.)

Citizens Bank Park
Friday, May 26-Sunday, May 28
Catch a ball game at Citizens Bank Park this holiday weekend. The Phillies are playing the Reds on Friday at 7:05 PM, if you buy a ticket to this game with offer code “bark,” you can even bring your pup to the game! The Phils are also playing Saturday at 4:05 PM and Sunday at 1:35 PM. Check out our roundup of game day specials to enjoy if you can’t make it out to the park. (1 Citizens Bank Park Way)

Friday, May 26, 11 AM-11 PM
Back for its third season, Summerfest debuts Friday of Memorial Day Weekend. Enjoy roller skating, mini-golf, lawn games, arcades, and food from Chickie’s and Pete’s Waterfront Crabshack. DJ Diamond Kuts from Power 99 FM will be on hand to provide tunes for the opening from 9 PM-11 PM. (101 S Christopher Columbus Blvd.)

Friday, May 26, 5 PM-9 PM
Head to the top of a parking garage in University City to soak in the sun and some great views of the city with a beer in hand. The Cira Green beer garden is only open on Fridays through June 23, so this is the perfect place to kick off your holiday weekend. (129 S 30th St.)

Chaddsford Winery
Saturday, May 27-Monday, May 29, 11 AM-6 PM
The unofficial start to the summer means a weekend-long music festival at this Philadelphia suburban winery. Each day will feature a different band and M & M Catering will be on site to provide the food. Best of all the event is free to enter. (632 Baltimore Pike)

Festival Pier
Saturday, May 27, 2 PM
Hall and Oates have curated and will be performing at this Memorial Day Weekend concert that will celebrate all things Philadelphia. Other acts include Tears for Fears, G. Love & Special Sauce, Vivian Green, Marah, Schooly D, and many more! VIP packages are available for $125 and $250 and include special stage access, commemorative items, private bars and more. General admission tickets are $40. (601 N Christopher Columbus Blvd.)

Penn’s Landing
Sunday, May 28, All day
Visit the Delaware Waterfront for activities for the whole family. The one event you may find particularly enticing is the free-entry beer garden on the (docked) Spirit of Philadelphia from 2:30 PM-5:30 PM. The beer garden will feature a live DJ, a dance floor, rooftop games (including giant Jenga, shuffleboard, and foosball), free light bites, and a full cash bar with drink specials. (401 S Christopher Columbus Blvd.)

Sunday, May 28, 10 PM-2 AM
Enjoy throwback jamz at this Sunday evening party. Two separate DJs will be spinning tunes from two eras with the downstairs bar featuring artists from the 90s like Spice Girls, Daft Punk, Destiny's Child and the like and upstairs with the best of the 2000s with jams from Jay-Z, Eminem, OutKast and more. $5 cover. (951 Frankford Ave.)
