Saturday, June 17 is officially #DrinkCheninDay, and several cities around the country are participating by hosting events that celebrate this particular varietal. Chenin blanc, an incredibly versatile grape from the Loire Valley in France, has a high acidity that lends itself to everything from dry whites, sparkling wines, and dessert wines, and this Saturday, a few Philly restaurants will be featuring this wine in all its glory.
There aren’t a ton of events celebrating Chenin Blanc, but these four places will have enough amazing deals to make up for that. On South Street over at
Good King Tavern, owner
Chloe Grigri is featuring a Chenin Blanc pour takeover for the evening, and at East Passyunk’s
Townsend, sommelier
Gordana Kostovski is pouring
Division-Village L'Isle Verte by the glass. If you’re looking to purchase a full bottle, all three
Tria Cafes (Rittenhouse, Washington Square West, and Fitler Square) will be featuring Chenin Blancs by the glass at reduced prices as well as by the bottle, including wines from Loire, New Jersey, and South Africa. (However, the bottles are to-go only!) Perhaps the largest event is at
a.kitchen, where
Joey Campanella has put together a three Chenin flight, which will run for $24 for three 3 ounce pours, alongside a featured bottle of Chenin — specifically, the
Chateau de Brézé ‘Clos de Midi’ 2015 Saumur for a special price of $35.
Whether you’re a Chenin Blanc fanatic or haven’t yet had the chance to try it, be sure to stop by one of these spots on Saturday, June 17 to celebrate this perfect summertime wine.
