Maison 208, a two-story, open-air concept from Sylva Senat, is now open in Midtown Village at 208 S. 13th Street.
“We want people to see Maison 208 as an approachable space to eat, drink and socialize while being surrounded by great company,” said Chef Senat. “The goal is to provide guests with a feeling of comfort and familiarity, as if they were invited to an intimate party among friends in an open-air setting, and I think we’ve achieved this concept.”
A New American restaurant serving small plates, cocktails, beer and wine, Maison 208 has two levels — a first floor dining space perfect for any occasion as well as a rooftop bar referred to as “The Social.”
The first floor will have its own full-service bar and menu with an open kitchen along with outdoor seating, and will be the destination for guests looking for a full dinner. Despite being on the first floor, it maintains the airy, open feel of the entirety of Maison, with large windows looking out onto 13th Street.
The Social serves cocktails and light bites in a plush, open space with a large bar and plenty of lounge seating and mural designs by artist James Burns of the Mural Arts Philadelphia Program adorning the walls, and with its incredible retractable roof — the first of its kind in Philadelphia — it’s sure to be a destination spot through the summer and beyond.
The restaurant almost didn't come to fruition after tragedy struck in the winter of 2015, when an arsonist built the building and original mural to the ground, but the team behind the concept refused to be deterred, and completed the project with an entirely new design and a brand new mural.
The concept was dreamed up by Senat, who appeared on season 14 of Top Chef, and is unlike anything we’ve seen yet in Philadelphia. Full menus are forthcoming, but in any case, be sure to stop by Maison now to see the space and enjoy a drink in the gorgeous weather under the retractable roof.
