Philly's Best Happy Hours: Bistrot La Minette's $3 Wines, $4 Kirs, & Half-Priced First Courses
Welcome to Philly’s Best Happy Hours, a feature highlighting great happy hours in different neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia. Since Drink Philly started out as a place to find happy hours in the city, we thought it was only right to return to our roots and turn the spotlight on some of Philly’s absolute best happy hour deals.
This week, we're turning the spotlight on Bistrot la Minette, Peter Woolsey's traditional Parisian bistro tucked away in the heart of Queen Village. Just two blocks off of South Street, you can enjoy authentic escargot and French wines inside a quaint, perfectly decorated interior that feels just like being in a small café off the Boulevard Saint Germain.
Bistrot la Minette's happy hour, which takes place Monday through Friday from 5:30 PM - 7 PM on the terrace and at the bar, features some incredible deals, from drinks to small French plates to seasonal specials.
During warmer months, grab $6 glasses of rosé, but all year round, house red and white wines are just $3. A traditional French kir, a cocktail made with white wine and créme de cassis, is just $4, and if you're more of a beer drinker, grab a $2 Lionshead.
If you're feeling hungry, there's plenty of food to go with your French wines — all of Bistrot's entrées, or first courses, are half off during happy hour. Though some of their plates do rotate seasonally, like the tomato tart, you'll always be able to find a few of the bistro's classic items. Escargots á la Bourguignonne is a perennial favorite, alongside the œufs de pêcheur (fisherman's style poached egg with mussels and tarragon cream), salade niçoise, and foie gras. With roughly ten entrées that from $8-$16 at full price, each one of them is an excellent steal.
"We do such an insane happy hour, which hopefully introduces this place to more people," says Peter Woolsey, Bistrot la Minette's owner and proprietor. "We want to be as accessible as possible — we want people to know we're not a destination, but a neighborhood spot."
Tessa, one of Bistrot's bartenders, adds, "I'm always telling my friends that this is one of the city's best happy hours — it's rare that you see this much variety in both food and drinks. It's great to be able to get a glass of wine or beer and be able to choose from a wide range of food as well."
Head over to Bistrot la Minette, enjoy a plate of foie gras and a glass of French white, and transport yourself to the Left Bank of Paris without ever leaving Philadelphia.
