Where to Toast to Repeal Day 2017 in Philadelphia

On December 5, 1933, the United States repealed the 18th Amendment, otherwise known as Prohibition, by passing the 21st amendment. Drinkers around the country celebrate this day, known as Repeal Day, where the United States undid 13 years of legislative stupidity with parties that, of course, have lots of booze! Here are the bars in Philadelphia that will be celebrating our 84th year of freedom to imbibe on Tuesday, December 5.

The Cambridge (1508 South St.)
Repeal Day Party, 7:30 PM-1:30 AM
Put on your best flapper dress or zoot suit and head to South Street for the Cambridge’s Repeal Day party. The party will include a champagne bar, passed cocktails and apps, giveaways, live jazz and more.  Tickets are $19.33 and can be purchased in person at the Cambridge.
The Franklin (112 S 18th St.)
Party like it's 1933 at one of Philadelphia's best cocktail bars. Enjoy a special cocktail menu, complimentary FEW Bourbon, FEW Rye and Widow Jane samples, a French 75 toast at midnight  (thanks for the folks at Bluecoat Gin), and a "flappers and dappers" costume contest with a $75 prize. Free to attend.

Jet Wine Bar  (1525 South St.)
Drink Specials, 4 PM-12 AM
$9 cocktails from 1920's and 1930's like the Southern Bootlegger Sweat Tea (Jack Daniels, Southern Comfort, lemon and cola); the Speakeasy Martini (Bluecoat, sweet vermouth and Fernet Branca) and the Flapper (Champagne and Créme Yvette) will fill the coCktail menu at this South Street bar. There will also be special hors d'oeuvres offered like "Eggs Capone" (deviled eggs with smoked salmon) and "Prohibition" Chicken Bruschetta.

Philadelphia Distilling  (25 E Allen St.)
Repeal Day Soirée, 8 PM- 12 AM
This distillery is going all out with their 1933 themed bash. Partygoers can enjoy an open bar that includes prohibition-era cocktails, bathtub gin, h’ors d’oeuvres and music by the Vance Camisa Quartet. Tickets are a fitting $33 and can be purchased here.

Red Owl Tavern (422 Chestnut St.)
Pappy Hour3 PM-8 PM
Enjoy an extended happy hour at this Old City bar in honor of Repeal Day. Drink specials include $5 pre-Prohibition cocktails like a Bees Knees, Old Fashioned, French 75 and Sidecar. They'll also be selling a super rare 23-year aged bottle of Pappy Van Winkle for $4,000.  $500 of the proceeds will go to charity and the purchase comes with very special VIP perks at the restaurant.

Water Works Restaurant (1 Boathouse Row)
Diageo Repeal Day Ball, 7:30 PM-11 PM
Celebrate your freedom to consume and purchase alcohol at this black tie event. For $30 you’ll get a Diageo Reserve open bar, signature cocktails from 10 bars in the city, a Johnnie Walker Blue Label toast, food, and much more. Formal attire is required! Purchase tickets here.
